I don't think you're being oversensitive at all! When I read what that reporter said I was "taken aback" to borrow a phrase. How does it help anyone to say that Ethiopian children are so different from American children that they couldn't possibly relate? I mean, honestly, even in the most well-meaning programs, there's already a kind of rhetoric in play regarding getting Americans to donate to programs in developing nations that I think others the people of those nations to a certain degree. WHY would someone want to make that worse by emphasizing differences rather than basic human commonalities? Dave handled the whole thing beautifully, though. Kudos to him for keeping calm and on point and expressing a beautiful sentiment. He really is an exemplary human being /verklempt :-P
