Quickdrabbles Fic 36: Focused on what I could attract...

You made a pact, you dropped the act, you focused on what you could attract...

Meh, I'm feeling somewhat written out - I am working on a wedding story (a separate story
from the one on which I'm collaborating with the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] frackin_sweet), and it's not going too well - and I want to start on this cracky R possibly-canon, possibly-AU bordello fic, and my guitars-by-gaslight AUbigbang, but I have just no impetus.

And I'm in Court this afternoon, WOE.

As a way of importuning the Muses, I thought I might try the drabbular method recently employed by [livejournal.com profile] timeisgone, [livejournal.com profile] kissesblow, [livejournal.com profile] orochi_kitty and [livejournal.com profile] otherbella.

Hundred word drabbles, snatches of story, any Cook, Anthemic, AIS7 pairing; crossovers with X-Men, BtVS/AtS, Discworld, Holmes, The Law. I think I have a tiny legalesque Cook/Ryan Seacrest somewhere! I'll even write you self-insert (of you). Leave me a prompt (word, song, whatever) and rating. Will turn around fast, so as to importune quickly XD

Gorgeous pic from the insanely talented [livejournal.com profile] ciudad, used with permission.

Oooh, this is totally self-indulgent and not exactly on the list, but you did a little David Cook/Kelly Clarkson piece a while ago, right? Yeah, I'd totally take more of that pairing.

As for a prompt, ummm...this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfzRlcnq_c0 (I flove this band so much. It's sort of ridic.) Also, I'm kind of an angst whore, but a total sucker for an eventual happy ending. But if you don't like the song, you can just expand on the other piece, do something completely different, whatever you want. I'll take my Cookson pretty much any way I can get it! =D

I got your back, girl. ;)

Poison and Wine [R]

He doesn't believe they'd fight over him selling out, toeing the party line, but they do.

She doesn't believe they'd fight over her not being open with her feelings with him, but they do.

I only know what you want me to know, he says.

You do everything I don’t want you to do, she says.

She weeps storms of tears, storms out of his apartment -

- runs back, kisses him frantically, she can't stay away.

(Oh your mouth is poison, your mouth is wine.)

He shouts - he's never been the shouting kind, before - she makes him angrier than he's ever been -

- no one's ever told him, these are what your dreams are, these are what your dreams should be.

She wishes he'd hold her, and stop her before she leaves. (She always comes back.)

He figures the less he gives her, the more he gets back. (He always gives in to her, anyway.)

They shout at each other; she flings something, which shatters like glass on the floor.

And then he's crying, and she flings herself into his arms, and his hands clutch at her hips, hard enough to bruise -

- and they make love gently, trying to heal the wounds they'd clawed into each other's skin, to cross the spaces that they'd managed to put in between: trying to live with each other, because, oh, they can't live without.

(Oh I don’t love you but I always will
Oh I don’t love you but I always will)

She holds him, after, and his tears are damp against her skin. I don't have a choice, but I still choose you.

Oh, this is the best way to wake up EVER.

This is just so many shades of perfect. You totally captured the push/pull of the song, and omg, I loooove push/pull. And you got Kelly's (my favorite Kelly - brunette, angsty, non-commercial, My December Kelly) moody-crazy-guarded persona that she throws up because she's scared and grasping and David's sensitive, emotional, bright-eyed fucking openness that he can't shut off no matter how much it may hurt. But most of all, you encapsulated the fear of being in love, how it can be the thing that destroys you, but builds you up at the same time, and how knowing and being known is the most beautiful and dangerous thing we'll ever do.

*sigh...* Why don't people write this pairing more often? They just seem so perfect for one another. It just breaks my heart. Thank you so much for writing this, bb. I'm your fangirl for life. And I'm totally stockpiling prompts, now. ;D

Oh, bb, I was so happy to write this for you! I'm glad you thought I got them, because I do see this about them - moody, passionate, fiercely independent Kels, Dave bright-eyed and open, as you say; still wanting to keep hold of the commercial thing, at least for the moment.

And I love that you mentioned "the fear of being in love", how "it's the most beautiful and dangerous thing we'll ever do" - which comes through in the song, clear as a bell.

Awesome prompt <333

Oh my heart. This is exquisite. <3

I totally love Cookson (although it may not always show, I don't even have an icon anymore D:) and this intense, h/c type of thing just works SO WELL for them. Plus I can never, never resist crying Cook. <3 Aww, why aren't these two together already? :D
