Post 26: It took time to understand the man…

…and now at least I know I know him well…

Hi, f-list! Check out the awesome new layout which the amazingly talented [livejournal.com profile] ciudad made for me! I was really excited to win her services for [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti, and she is not only gifted but a real sweetheart (she also provides tech support!). In addition, she’s gonna make me a surprise thing – how is that not sheer win? *dances around*

Thank you so much, my dear! XDD (She wants me to credit [livejournal.com profile] the_fulcrum for the style sheet, and viola!)

Separately, I do realize this LJ has been pretty much all American Idol all the time, but I actually do enjoy several other fandoms, including that of the original good Doctor (not you, Tiemann). While Eleven does intrigue me, and I have actually always loved Eccleston, my favorite Dr. is the delectable Ten, played by a David! Tennant’s older than our beloved Dave Cook, but as gorgeous, even more articulate, elegant, and at the same a time total geek. He might not have the Cookster’s guitar-playing biceps, but he is as utterly shag-worthy, ahem.

Ten had the hottest Companions, also! I am most partial to Captain Jack, played by the hot-as-burning John Barrowman, who is a fantastic singer as well as an actor. I have on repeat John’s cover of this fantastic 80s song with Daniel Boys, which is an original Elaine Paige/Barbara Dickson duet from the musical CHESS, “I Know Him So Well”. Cue showcase of Barrowman’s gorgeous upper register and the man himself in a lovely shade of pink, and my heart breaking into little pieces from this reminder of my angsty childhood. “Wasn’t he good, wasn’t he fine, isn’t it madness he can’t be mine?” We all comfort ourselves thus: at least we knew him well.

Here is my fave Jack/The Doctor fanvid by Hllangel, set to the same song:

Even the good Doctor himself can’t resist! See this awesome, gallant Tennant/Barrowman kiss at Comicon 2009, originally brought to my attention by [livejournal.com profile] goseward. I love David’s look of intent, and how he grins and cups John’s face and moves in slow, and how John goes pink to the ears and fans himself and faux-swoons. “I’ve been waiting for that for years!” Yeah, John, it totally shows. ♥.

ETA: It would appear in the intervening years that Barrowmann has no lack of willing kissing partners? HILARIOUS VID WHERE JOHN KISSES AND FLUSTERS EVERYONE.

EYATA: Doctor Who The Musical - amazing, gorgeous meta vid, featuring the Ten recap and handover from Ten to Eleven (with bonus Nine). LOVE.

And I am now, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] leici, gonna spam with Torchwood kissing photos, from here.

Finally: ah, David, David – Archuleta, not Cook or Tennant, and a much younger, less sophisticated and more conservatively religious one. Still love him, and I think he needs love and support – certainly not validation, but not condemnation, either. (Of course people do feel disappointed, and worse, and with good reason.) I am just saying: my wish is for him to grow from the kind, considerate, generous (sheltered, rigidly brought up) teen that he is into the strong, loving and accepting man we know he can be. Okay, that's all.

First of all..I love the layout! It's so gorgeous. <33 And the pictures of Cook that [livejournal.com profile] ciudad used! *fans self*

And secondly...OMG DAVID TENNANT. I HAD NO IDEA YOU LOVED HIM TOO! :D :D :D :D You have excellent taste, Jay.

I agree with you about Archie. <33 IMO a lot of people are overreacting to what he said, but I can see why others are upset by his words and what they implied. =/

I feel this icon is appropriate for this post. Mmmhmmm.

I react a bit like a mother, being asked to pick between her kids, when I have to choose between the Doctors. I just can't. I love them all for very special reasons, and they're all unique little snowflakes and all that. I mean, Tennant is probably my favourite actor of the three, but as far as Doctors go? Nope. Not going to choose. XD

OMGOSH! I didn't know you were into Doctor Who!!!
*squee*
I will forever and always love Ten. He will always be my Doctor, you know? But I must say, Matt blew my socks off yesterday. Like, whoa. He just is the Doctor. And I hate to say it, but I think I'm going to like Moffat better than Davies. There, I said it. :P

As for Archie, I couldn't not agree with you more. You took the thoughts right out of my head and said them more eloquently than I ever could. Thanks for that.

And damn! I was so happy about the Doctor Who love that I forgot to say that I absolutely LOVE the new layout and header! *drools* Totally gorgeous and worthy of you, my dear!

[identity profile] evilgeniuslady.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, it is never a good idea to try to communicate complicated messages in 140 characters. It's never going to end well, no matter how articulate you are. And to be honest, I really don't blame him for not liking the party scene, gay or not (and the gay party scene is sort of insane anyway). As for the rest? Eh. Slightly unfortunate wording, but I honestly don't think Archie has it in him to condemn anyone for their sexual orientation.

Also also, the layout is gorgeous! Reminds me that I really ought to freshen up my own, it's been years since I did it last...

Yes, that gal is talented!

YES, THAT MAN IS HAWT.

*sighs* yes, that boy tends to get himself into trouble over Twitter (note to bb D: not the best medium to express yourself sensitively and carefully to your fans). It seemed that he felt the need to distance himself from the Evil Gay Club, and to the extent that's so, it's right to call him on it. But even if it is, I don't think it's right to set torches and pitchforks on the boy. C'mon.

I especially love the icon you have where Ten says, "YOU, WRITE ME SOME PORN!" LOL FOREVER.

Your wish is my command.

Now where's my porn???

;P

I vaguely recall you linking me to some scary party scene site once, but I've obviously blocked it successfully!

I really don't blame him for not liking the party scene, gay or not (and the gay party scene is sort of insane anyway). As for the rest? Eh. Slightly unfortunate wording, but I honestly don't think Archie has it in him to condemn anyone for their sexual orientation.

Oh, darling, thank you for this sensible, measured and compassionate response! I love it so, and really really hope it's true. IMO, the boy hasn't a condemnative bone in his body.

*flails* Anything for you, Doctor!

(*ponders*: I'm not sure there has ever been a Who!Cookleta, has there? I'm not sure how much porn it would contain, though XDD. Also: I don't have the historical chops to write Whofic. So it might have to just be generic porn XD.)

[identity profile] frackin-sweet.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
HOW SO SUAVE, Barty Crouch DAVID TENNANT??? I love how he flusters Barrowman just like, so effortlessly. Because normally that's Barrowman's job: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gd_egSxkxbk. (stuff doesn't start happening 'til about 2 minutes in). LOL THOSE GIRLS.

[identity profile] jehane-writes.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I love your Eleven icon, it's so cool! The new season has yet to hit our shores, though I did, um, happen upon some vids of the same, ahem.

Arch: *sighs*. Look, even if he does skew homophobic, which I'm not by any means convinced of, I think he's a fundamentally good person, and he's capable of change. Let's try to convince, rather than condemn?

[identity profile] evilgeniuslady.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
These two follow-up tweets suggest I'm right:
@hamghost I have friends who are gay, and they're great people. Whether they're gay or not doesn't change how I think of them.
@hamghost I have nothing against anyone, I'm sorry if that's how it came across. I'm just not into the partying scene lol.

The gay party scene can be ... well, sometimes it's everything you've ever imagined or heard. I once went to an after-Pride party where there were hospital beds lined up around the dance floor for people to 'relieve the pressure'. And they did. I have not yet managed to block those particular images from my mind. Seeing as how it was in NYC I'm guessing said night club leans more towards that after-Pride party than towards the more wholesome parties he's (probably) used to attending. I'm imaging a lot of 'oh my gosh, I really did not need to see that' coming out of his mouth last night (and I must admit it's a really funny image).

Thanks, sweetie! I love it too! ♥

Historical chops? What on earth are you talking about, woman? The beauty of Who is that it can be set in any time, place or genre you like. Doesn't actually have to be timey-wimey, you know. ;)

[identity profile] clionona.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally meant to say that I could not agree with you more in my original comment.

Rough Monday, I guess. :P

You knew what I meant. Convince and not condemn. Exactly.

♥!

Gorgeous new layout!

[identity profile] jehane-writes.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
*FLAILS MADLY* BARROWMAN IS SUCH A KISSING MACHINE, OMG! And there you see the proper demonstration of the word "snog", both in usage and in action (repeatedly!).

I HAD NOT SEEN THIS! THANK YOU, OMG. BRB REWATCHING.

[identity profile] jehane-writes.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, totally knew what you meant! Hope your Monday gets better, sweetie! <333

[identity profile] jehane-writes.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
*clings* I hope so. Ah, Arch; just be more aware next time, k?

'oh my gosh, I really did not need to see that' HEE. INDEED XDDD

[identity profile] frackin-sweet.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
YES, indeed!! I am also rewatching. Those girls' reactions are just PRICELESS. Granted, they handled it with far more aplomb than I would've.

Ah, but the Doctor being the Doctor, he makes these little historical cross-time fillips in conversation. Even in sexing conversation, which I recall you making very well XDDD Hence a knowledge of history is essential!

Mind you, thanks to fecking steampunk fic, I am now REALLY familiar with 1901 NYC.

[identity profile] jehane-writes.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I love it too! <333

[identity profile] jehane-writes.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! They were all just, let's go for it! Barrowman has got to be the best and most versatile kisser in the Western World.

ILH, and were I in their shoes, I would have flailed like Archie and totally embarrassed myself XDDD

(frozen comment)

[identity profile] evilgeniuslady.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Most the time his cross-time fillips are just pop-culture references gone slightly astray (Emmeline Pankhurst (I think?) stole my laser spanner. Cheeky woman). You are not going to make me believe you don't know those well enough to write the Doctor! Make him reference Beethoven being deaf or something! Or having peanutbutter & banana sandwiches with Elvis, maybe even teaching him how to make them. Or an apple reminding him of the Beatles making apple pie. Dude. He's just being cheeky and showing off his vast importance. No need for hours of research!
