labyrinth2015: (B and the Edge)
[personal profile] labyrinth2015
...ours is a stormy kind of love.

Don't mind me, guys, I still haven't come down from my U2 kick and rediscovered adoration of the lads.

So I'm totally shipping B and the Edge, but HOW CUTE ARE B and his wife of 28 years, Ali? It seems he forgot her birthday in 1987 while in the recording studio, and he gave her this song, The Sweetest Thing, as an apology gift.

AND HOW ADORABLE IS THIS vid for "The Sweetest Thing"? It features Bono taking Ali on a carriage ride along Fitzwilliam Place and Fitzwilliam Street in Dublin. Along the way, he enlists the help of various performers and friends in an effort to apologize to her, including Boyzone (!!!), Riverdance and the Chippendales, together with the other U2 lads. OMHADORABLENESSWATCH. ([livejournal.com profile] duckgirlie, I assume these streets are familiar to you...)

BECAUSE NOTHING SAYS SORRY LIKE AN ELEPHANT WITH A SIGN THAT SAYS "SORRY". (And a fire truck full of hunky gyrating semi-naked men.) HAHAHAHAHA.

Other U2-relatedly, I've been mainlining "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" post Two Roads Meet. Here's is the acoustic version of the song from the Bono and the Edge show in the San Remo (I am getting to the slash, slowly!). Here, they pair it with "All I Want Is You" - if you skip past the first minute or so of Bono's passable Italian (and message to Italian policitos), the double bill is just ridiculously gorgeous, and you only get backing vox like that when you've 30 years of touring together (though I've every confidence Dave and Andy will get there).

Okay, okay, I'll be quiet now and slink back to the U2 slash ;)

I taped hours of VH1 when that video debuted so that I could see Ronan Keating on my tv.

(don't have a Ronan icon anymore, so we'll go with Nicky, his doppelganger)

I am in negotiations to acquire U2 icons! Until then, have some NFT.

AND OMG RONAN SO CUTE AND YOUNG IN THAT VIDEO ♥ ♥ ♥

Yeahhhh, not to hijack, but this song was my gateway drug to pop music.

Previously I had been all Doc Marten'd, flannel shirted grunge and Christian rock teenage girl.

Also. I love the ~~close relationships the boys in Irish bands share.

OMG YOUR ICON <3333

Jack away! I loved "All That I Need", and check out those gorgeous lads in leather and snakeskin! :))))))

I know, it's something about the Irish :)

BONO IS POSSESSIVE.

BONO IS A VERY JEALOUS, POINTY BOYFRIEND.

THE LADS WITH MATCHING LAMBS!

STOP MEEE :)

Oh my gosh, the story about forgetting his wife's birthday and his apology video... soooo cute! And I love the mini picspam in your comments :) I may just become a U2 fan <3

Awww, they are adorable, right? And you should totally come on over to U2 fandom! They are a little less prettay than the Anthemic, but they are so so talented, and they've been making music for 30 years together! (Also, B and the Edge are incredibly close and incredibly slashy ;))

The Sweetest Thing takes place about ten minutes from my house!

eeeee! *fangirls* I realize the vid came out, like, when you were born, but surely you musta seen it a zillion times???

From: [identity profile] duckgirlie.livejournal.com
Actually, the song was originally written in 87, but it was only a b-side, and the video didn't come out until it was released as a single in 97 for the compilation album, so I was nearly 11 when it was in heavy rotation.

I have seen all of them about the place various times, except for Adam, who remains elusive.

Actually, a friend of my mom's used to work in Mount Temple, and before he left Adam had an interview with a career guidance counsellor who asked him what he wanted to do when he grew up, and after he answered 'I'm going to be the bassist in a rock band', they asked him what he'd do until then, and he apparently replied 'I guess I'll be a hungry bassist in a rock band'.

*FANGIRLS EVEN MORE* it must have been pretty cool watching that, as a youngster when you lived right there! And it's a really cute Adam story :)

Okay, now here I am imagining you growing up in the environment of the Commitments, or something.

From: [identity profile] duckgirlie.livejournal.com
Oh, I love The Commitments. Bits of it were filmed really near me, even though technically I live on the wrong side of the city. Like, the pool hall they rehearse in? The exterior of that is really near me, but not the interior. And Joey's Ma's place is quite near as well. The geography of that film is kind of ridiculous though. And Dublin looks nothing like that any more.

I love Dublin, though I only visited once and before The Troubles had been fully resolved, in the early 90s. In my head, it totally = The Commitments. It must be very, very different now! (I love the Irish, too - I hope you can tell.)

We've had a major face lift in the last while. We now have many shiny things and places. How long they shall remain shiny though, that is the question.

You guys will pull through - you always have. (How are things on the emigre front?)

Fingers crossed, at least.

Canadian visa applications don't open until January, and I can't afford an Australian one right now (and the welfare office lost part of my application, joy). But I'm hoping maybe March? My best friend and her boyfriend are also planning on Canada, so that's looking like the best bet right now.

From: [identity profile] jehane-writes.livejournal.com
Er, with the EU you should be able to head out to most anywhere in Europe? Idk what the economy in Canada is like right now, but Australia is a good good bet - the Asia Pac is doing well and Aust. is going great guns. *fingers crossed for you, bb*

Date: 2010-12-11 07:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] duckgirlie.livejournal.com
I'm not sure about Europe. I'm really, really bad at languages. (Like, 14-years-of-schooling-and-nearly-failed-Leaving-Cert-Irish bad) and I kind of have a mental thing that I want to be far enough away from home that I can't just give up if I get worried. Aus would work, but they USIT people told me that you need to have about 5000$ when you enter (though a few people have disputed this, so I have no idea) which would just take so much longer.

Well, if you have friends heading to Canada that sounds like the best thing. Of course, you could always head out to South East Asia - we all speak English out here, there's always demand for language teachers, plus, your brother has just been out here? And the economy down here is doing pretty well.

Happy birthday, by the way! May the road always come up to meet you, and the wind always be at your back.

From: [identity profile] duckgirlie.livejournal.com
It depends. They're a couple, so it might be strange to go over with them and be all third-wheel-y. But then, my brother is in Cambodia teaching English, and he never even finished school, which makes me more optimistic about getting a job in various places.

Thank you! (I love the phrase 'may the road always rise up to meet you', but I still never quite get how it's a good thing...)

I love the phrase too, and to me it has always had the sense of, may you keep journeying safely and happily? But for those of us who have been on a bender or two (making no admissions, o'course), this could easily have another more literal and drunken connotation...

I always liked 'nil aon thintin mar do thintin fein' (and that is not spelled right at all) which is just a cosier way of saying 'no place like home.' (No hearth fire like your own) fire)

There's a brand of individual sugar packets, and of matches, over here that have little sayings on the back, as gaeilge and in translation. My favourite is 'the day of the big wind is no time to thatch the roof'.

Hey hey! Yeah, actually, I have kind of been All Davids all the time too that I've forgotten about other fandoms and other RPS! (And, actually, the Edge is a David too!!)

So this year there was Inception, which is a totally new fandom, and then there's u2slash, which is a fairly old, established fandom, with established writers...

Boyzone is ADORABLE.
