I shouldn't be here; I'm gearing up for weekends and weeks of work and more work. But, oh, fandom is beguiling me with roaring fireplaces and wine, holding my hands and harmonising with me and exhorting me to stay :)
Case in point: how utterly charming is GLEE's Chris Colfer/Darren Criss, and this Doris Day/Dean Martin duet? SO CHARMING. Cute and coy, winsome and winning, the sidelong glances from Kurt and the full-on gallantry from Blaine, the old-school flirty sidestepping-around-each-other cheoreography, everything about this ♥
Of course, the fella I really love from GLEE is Matt Morrison, who's charming enough to convince me to leave with him on a jet plane, even. He's terrific on the duet/mash-ups that GLEE does so well, Umbrella/Singing in the Rain (with Gwyneth) and the brilliant Young Girl/Don't Stand So Close to Me. Here he is, trying on Les Miserables' "Bring Him Home" - excellently, though he's still a little young for the role (IMO he's a better fit for Enjolras), and takes this one octave down from the unnatural tenor of the original.
Speaking of musicals, I have always adored Archuleta's Backstreet Boys-esque take on Phantom of the Opera staple heavweight "Think of Me", and how he was the perfect channel for Christine's 17-year-old wide-eyed innocence.
AND THEN THERE WAS THE PHANTOM, NOW AND FOREVER ;)
...okay, fandom, well, maybe half a drink more - I wish I knew how to break this spell (your hair looks swell) :)

Date: 2011-02-25 05:35 pm (UTC)And, actually, we've just only started Season Two here, so I am watching this stuff from the internets and people's LJs. From what I know, Blaine/Kurt are taking it very very slowly - atm it's more a friendship plus than an actual romance, though the writers will probably take it in that direction (slowly). IA the show is pretty brave and out there, though, and kids are indeed loving it :)

Date: 2011-02-25 05:31 pm (UTC)And look at these other goodies! Loved ALW night so much. Also known as the one night Archie changed it up and Cook sang it straight. WHERE IS THE COOKLETA PHANTOM AU THOUGH?

Date: 2011-02-25 05:41 pm (UTC)Ahaha, the night Arch changed it and Cook sang it straight - how I adored that! I remember someone writing canonfic of ALW night (who's since taken her fic down :( ), but I haven't seen a full-on Cookleta Phantom AU and would absolutely second the call for one ;)

Date: 2011-02-25 06:53 pm (UTC)Oh, I'm on this new fic kink: Kurtofsky. I know, I know, it's bad but I adore Max Adler so redemption fics for Dave Karofsky.

Date: 2011-02-26 12:57 am (UTC)I was then too shy to march over and gush about how I loved him in "Footloose", also, the dude was eating, and everyone in the diner was ignoring him in jaded New Yorker fashion. So I just sat and watched him eat :) And my Bacon score became zero :)
I adore redemption arcs, and have no problems with Kurtofsky! Any good fic to recommend that actually deals with the canon and self-hate, rather than just going to the PwP?

Date: 2011-02-25 07:18 pm (UTC)Also Ryan would have gotten in some digs about how Simon is Eva.
I adore that Glee duet and I'm still vaguely annoyed at the "date rape song" brigade.

Date: 2011-02-26 01:55 am (UTC)*throws up hands* WHAT date rape song brigade? Flirty, charming, gallant - Kurt/Blaine put a fresh modern spin on the Doris Day/Dean Martin that highlights the push/pull equal power of their relationship. The naysayers have plenty of truly misogynistic/unequal songs to hit on and I don't get why they'd target this innocuous, charming one.

Date: 2011-02-25 07:29 pm (UTC)Lol forever at the ALW/DC conversation from that episode. It will never not make me laugh. I love his cover of that. He and Gerry aren't Michael Crawford, but they prove all you need is a decent set of pipes and bucketloads of charisma to sell it. (of which canon ALWnight removed fic are you speaking?)
Hope the workload lightens and you're free to love on fandom some more soon!

Date: 2011-02-26 02:32 am (UTC)Aw, DCook could totally sell most musical theatre (Che in Evita! Enjolras in Lesmis! Roger in RENT!), and I adored his take on the Phantom. IRRC, there was a bunch of awesome oldschool Idol/tour fic from a girl called Frankie, but it's gone and I think Pri said she'd deleted her stuff :(
Thanks for your kind words, sweetness. Light at the end of the tunnel, in, like, May.

Date: 2011-02-26 01:06 pm (UTC)Here, have his very first appearance anywhere (apparently): As part of a fake boyband on Letterman, already displaying those abs.
I adore the Kurt/Blaine thing, whatever it ends up being. Darren Criss is amazing, and he plays off Chris so very well (although this week's "Oh no Blaine might be bi!" thing was just stupid). Fact: The only Glee songs I have on my iPod are Darren's, as well as a few of Chris' and Lea's "Don't Rain on My Parade".

Date: 2011-02-27 03:15 am (UTC)The man seems smart, passionate and funny as well as talented, and can dance better than DCook can (and has better abs, though I do love The Tummeh :)). I just haven't found anyone to ship him with. (If NPH had been on more than one ep, maybe - though I like a contrast in my pairs. I actually quite like Gwyneth, and perhaps they'll have some onscreen chemistry :))

Date: 2011-02-26 01:34 pm (UTC)Blaine is one of my fave things about Glee these days. There's something so charming and likeable about him. And Darren Criss is ADORABLE.

Date: 2011-02-27 12:44 am (UTC)Blaine: IKR? He's a terrific character, and idc what happens or doesn't happen with Kurt, he's breathed new life into the show.

Date: 2011-02-27 10:59 am (UTC)To be honest, I've always had a fondness for 'Leaving on a Jet Plane', so when he first started playing it on Glee, I gasped. It's a beautiful song that I can't help singing along with.
You have a point about the Glee duets, by the way. I'm not sure if they've done a duet that I don't love. Actually, the Rachel/April duet from the fourth episode gave me chills.
Cook and Archie were perfect when it came to Phantom of the Opera. When I finally watched the movie, I couldn't help but think Music of the Night sounded faintly wrong. I still wish there was a Phantom of the Opera AU. That was so perfect.
It's nice to here from you again, Jay, I hope you're well and I love you!
