Quickdrabbles Fic 36: Focused on what I could attract...

You made a pact, you dropped the act, you focused on what you could attract...

Meh, I'm feeling somewhat written out - I am working on a wedding story (a separate story
from the one on which I'm collaborating with the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] frackin_sweet), and it's not going too well - and I want to start on this cracky R possibly-canon, possibly-AU bordello fic, and my guitars-by-gaslight AUbigbang, but I have just no impetus.

And I'm in Court this afternoon, WOE.

As a way of importuning the Muses, I thought I might try the drabbular method recently employed by [livejournal.com profile] timeisgone, [livejournal.com profile] kissesblow, [livejournal.com profile] orochi_kitty and [livejournal.com profile] otherbella.

Hundred word drabbles, snatches of story, any Cook, Anthemic, AIS7 pairing; crossovers with X-Men, BtVS/AtS, Discworld, Holmes, The Law. I think I have a tiny legalesque Cook/Ryan Seacrest somewhere! I'll even write you self-insert (of you). Leave me a prompt (word, song, whatever) and rating. Will turn around fast, so as to importune quickly XD

Gorgeous pic from the insanely talented [livejournal.com profile] ciudad, used with permission.

oo, I think David/Kris Allen is my new ship ;)

You sound so so busy, hon! A move to London sounds awesome, and actually makes it that much more likely we might actually meet, because I am out there for work a lot. It's a real bugger now, but when you are all moved and settled in everything will be amazing. The museums, the musicals, so much for the kidlets to do, seriously :D

AN "A"! GO YOU XDDDD

And, I'm not sure whether I'm up to Cook/Cowell R, but I am definitely planning on making some form of, er, romantic activity. I will link you to nasty cestuous threesomeing, when it occurs - some of us are considering setting up a safe community for our cesty needs ;)

I'm good! January has been slower, work wise, but things heating up very shortly.

Um, sorry? Or should that be YAY? XD

Oh. My. Gosh. I want to squee and flail and cry and hug you through my computer right now! This? Is beautiful. I ♥ it so.

A couple of weeks ago I went back and re-read AIRN from start to finish for the first time. I hadn't been able to do that until then because reading it chapter by chapter as you posted it pretty much broke me. But, reading it all the way through gave me such an appreciation for the story as a whole. The images were so much clearer to me and I felt their pain even more. But it was a glorious experience. :)

I love that you wrote this from Archie's POV. Archie crying on Brooke's bed and her holding him showed his hurt and vulnerability and I was right there with him. :(

And Archie was watching Cook's performances - oh my heart - and saw his Avalanche dedication. Oh Gosh. *wibbles*

And then Cook's crying in the hazy Spanish evening, and Arch is crying too, in the afternoon in L.A., miles and oceans away.

Archie lies awake all night.

Finally, when it's morning, he picks up the phone, and dials Cook's cell.

It rings twice, three times. Then Cook's voice, rich and still so beautiful, and, and Archie can't say anything, can't get his throat to work -

- Cook says, "David, is that you?" -

- And Archie can't. Oh, it still hurts so much - he hangs up, he folds to the floor, he cries for everything they've lost, that they can't even talk to each other on the 'phone now, or, most like, ever again.

Just remembering Cook's reaction after Archie hung up and finally knowing what happened from Archie's POV makes me ache. Literally. My heart is constricting and my stomach is in knots.

But, being the genius that you are, you make it all better with that lovely picture of them in the future. YOU ARE AMAZING AND I CANNOT STATE THAT ENOUGH. Thank you so very much for this gem. I absolutely love it. ♥

Ok, I don't know what happened here with my reply in the thread but this is my response to Need You Now. if that wasn't clear. LOL!

[identity profile] chemicalwonder.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
OH NO YOU DIDN'T! :D I swear I wasn't trying to get you to write sexytimes. xD But I'm glad you did, because I LOVE IT.

Haha, I'm totally loving all the Idol judge metaphors, she seems the kind of type that would do that, especially in this situation. And David, well that mouth of his is a thing of magic... Gotta say, even though I love slash like crazy, that was a particularly hot het!sex scene, with all the hip-holding and back-arching. Dayum. Round one to Cook indeed! xD

Obviously your brilliance knows no boundaries! You rock bb!

I'll let you in on a little secret; she did the same thing to me. xD

Haha Jay must have some secret magical power or something. XD But yaaaaay, I'm not alone!

In this case it's definitely a YAY! Even though I don't view it as such personally :P

AND YOUR ICON IS NOT HELPING.

YAY, thank you! Glad you liked said little snippet; I'm not sure I could handle the world-building necessary for a proper Holmes!Cookleta story, but I enjoyed making this! <3

YAY, I gotcha! And, I am not sure why you're complaining, inasmuch as this was YOUR pairing! I never thought about it until you asked for it! But I'm glad I gotcha with my het, hee :D

Re: Judging David Part 2 [R/NC-17]

[identity profile] jehane-writes.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, you are too kind. (And don't blame me, the pairing is entirely [livejournal.com profile] chemicalwonder's fault!)

[identity profile] jehane-writes.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Honey, you have always been so kind about AIRN! And, truth be told, that verse still consumes me, a little, and so I was so glad to write you an extract from it. I was also keen to write from Arch's POV - the thing about AIRN is that we get these unremitting 12 chapters of Cook POV, where his love and obsession with Arch is documented meticulously, but Arch remains a bit of a cipher, very much an Object.

The scene with the 'phone in Ch 7, with Cook - you know it's Arch, don't you? ;)

I do have a long (25k word!) AIRNverse story coming up, which tells what happened to them in 2015 (Nine 1/2 Weeks in L.A.). I hope you'll be there for that <3

[identity profile] jehane-writes.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
These things happen to me all the time, LOL!

[identity profile] cincodemaygirl.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I have to admit I am kind of all-Cookleta, all the time over here. I know it's hard to tell, what with the Kradam fic, but--yeah. *makes puppy eyes of pleading*

Also, in a week or so, might you have any interest in betaing a short(ish) Cookleta fic? I have about 1000 words and I expect it to top out at less than 5000.

Oh suuuure, blame [livejournal.com profile] chemicalwonder. I see what you did there. :P

And psh, I'm only truthful, chica!

Re: Eagle's Wings [PG-13]

[identity profile] cincodemaygirl.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my goodness, this is FANTASTIC. I love this idea and the scene is just so vivid. Also, what a fantastic line--Archuleta's shadow stretches like temptation across his desk.

[identity profile] jehane-writes.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, L! Um, I hate to tell you this but you might be able to tell from the masterlist that I have made your Spin the Bottle prompt into Cook/Cowell. A slightly explicit Cook/Cowell, at that. Hope you don't run screaming into the night!

eee, you're joining us on Planet Cookleta! IT WOULD BE A PLEASURE TO BETA FOR YOU. *grabbyhands*

I'm not complaining! :D Aboslutely not. Thanks for writing, I never thought this pairing could actually work this well. xD But I guess there's nothing you can't do. :D

Re: Judging David Part 2 [R/NC-17]

[identity profile] chemicalwonder.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
I think she does, too. :D

Re: Judging David Part 2 [R/NC-17]

[identity profile] chemicalwonder.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'll take the blame for thinking of the pairing, but making it work, well that's entirely Jay's doing! :D

Spin [R] - Part 1

[identity profile] jehane-writes.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
AMY, IDEK ANYMORE

Dave's the one who discovers the game: the bottle, the huddled throng of seniors and juniors in the common room after hours.

There's Chris, the school quarterback; he's got a hand knotted in the tie of one of the youngsters, and he's doing his best to suck the kid's face off as the others cheer him on.

Dave feels the hot flush of blood in his ears; he'd figured, cool young music master, he'd have a better handle on something like this. Unfortunately, he doesn't - the juniors are under-aged, there's the hooting and hollering aspect of the game he doesn't like, it makes him kind of see red, and he's yelling, "Goddamn it, you guys, break it up now!"

The students look horrified; Chris looks stunned and guilty and lets the junior go. The kid, whose name is Justin, Dave thinks, looks sex-drunk, like he's about to pass out.

Dave would have continued to yell; he's angry enough, and it would have made things worse. Leave it to Simon Cowell, St Joseph's dour English master and former housemaster of elite British boarding school Harrow to take charge of the situation: his acerbic manner actually calms everyone down.

"Right, lads, if you were back in bed five minutes ago, Mr Cook and I might be persuaded to overlook this little incident. Mr Richardson, Mr Garcia, you'll report to my office first thing after breakfast." Simon glares at the group of boys, who all visibly quail before him; the two main perpetrators swaying on their feet. "Now, get the hell out of my sight."

The boys disperse hastily. David realizes his hand is shaking a little, that he's clutching the offending bottle to him, adrenaline shivering through his body.

"Man, boys' prep schools will be the death of me!"

"Ah, this one's not too bad. Boys will be boys, hot-blooded teenagers and all." Simon shrugs as they switch off the common room lights. "Filthy game, though."

It's David's turn to shrug, falling into step with Simon down the corridor. "Typical American high school kissing game. Don't they have this in the UK?"

Simon smirks. He looks like he knows he's pretty hot, and he is, actually, objectively speaking. Dave may or may not have had an eye on him when he first started at St Joseph's two terms ago. They've had a couple of months of polite conversation about British music and films, which had progressed to dinners together after hours; they have an interesting cross-Atlantic exchange going on that stays on the right side of flirtatious, but only just.

Without knowing exactly why, Dave follows Simon into his office. The adrenaline's still burning across his senses.

"British lads don't need any games as an excuse to kiss each other, that's what broom closets are for." Simon perches on his desk, nods to the bottle in Dave's clasp. "So how do you play this one, then?"

"Spin the bottle? Not complex. Spinner spins, like so -" Dave puts the bottle on Simon's desk and gives it a healthy spin - "and the person whom the bottle top points to gets to be the one..."

He trails off; Simon is looking at him with cloudy eyes. The bottle rattles to a halt, pointing directly at Simon.

"...The one who gets to kiss him?" Simon supplies helpfully. His voice has taken on a low, raspy timbre.

Re: Spin [R] - Part 2

[identity profile] jehane-writes.livejournal.com 2010-01-22 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Dave swallows. "Yeah, something like that. Not rocket science."

"You mean, something like this?" Simon takes hold of David's collar. His wide, sardonic mouth moves against David's, a slow slide of wet lips that's gentle and almost gentlemanly.

David's considering whether it's polite to kiss back, when Simon shifts his weight backwards, still gripping David by the collar.

David slides against him, pressing him against his desk, and suddenly the kiss is substantially less chaste, David clutching at Simon's shirt, his lips opening up under Simon's, and he shivers, feeling the sweep of tongue in his mouth, deep and sure and taking, the warmth of Simon's body under his.

It's a long burn that makes David want things he's never even thought of from Simon, makes him shiver hotly as Simon kisses him like he craves nothing but him.

In the end, Simon eases off, draws himself away, trailing brief, biting kisses against David's swollen mouth. David moans a little when Simon slides from under him, adjusting his clothing and running an elegant hand through his hair.

Simon smiles when Dave tries to reach for him again, rubs a thumb over Dave's wet lower lip. "Steady, David," he says, not unkindly.

"What kind of fucking thing to say is, 'Steady'?" Dave wants to know, breathing fast. "Over here, you don't just kiss a guy like that and pull off, not unless you really mean to tease."

Simon raises an amused eyebrow as he wipes his own mouth with the back of his hand. "Don't mean to tease," he murmurs. "Don't think I can blame my British sense of humor, either, can I?"

"Not unless you want me to show you my American middle finger." Dave sits back and tries to readjust his own clothes too; it's kind of difficult when you're harder than the Rock of Gibraltar.

"Never one for starting things with a co-worker, is all. Not a good idea, for you as well as me."

Simon's eyes are calm and level, more unruffled than they had any right to be. Dave has no idea what he's doing, what they're both doing, but he knows he needs to get out of Simon's office before he does something he might regret, like pinning Simon across his desk and kissing that sly, teasing smile off his sardonic face.

He needs to stay the fuck away from Simon. That's the ticket, as they say in England. Surely he can manage that.
